Mistakes Were Made

Gonzales: 'Mistakes were made' in U.S. attorneys' firings

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Tuesday that "mistakes were made" regarding the firing of eight U.S. attorneys and he accepts responsibility for the ordeal. "My pledge to the American people is to find out what went wrong here," he said. "As we can all imagine, in an organization of 110,000 people, I am not aware of every bit of information that passes through the halls of justice, nor am I aware of all decisions.”

Mistakes were made
Vital information was not relayed
We are extremely dismayed
To report: Mistakes were made

When failures are truly massive
There's no voice better than the passive
To hide the guilty parties from plain view
And obscure forever exactly who screwed who

Never once admit you lied
Say “incomplete information was supplied.”
When the truth is finally displayed
Just shrug and say, “Mistakes were made.”

Accept responsibility? Sure
But never take the blame
Whether you're faking a case for war
Or outing Valerie Plame

Giving Osama a free pass
Putting spies up everyone's ass
Firing lawyers who failed to toe the line
Or dared pursue Republicans' crimes

Express neither remorse nor regret
Eventually the public will forget
And you'll regain the people's trust
Mistakes were made. But not by us.
